Love in many guises

Sir, – An interview by Kathy Sheridan with Marian Finucane (Magazine, March 17th) confirms a sclerotic view of sexuality at the heart of the RTÉ documentary on Nuala O’Faolain, who was my bean chéile for 15 years.

Moral gatekeepers of the documentary wrongly ask if Nuala was bisexual? A trivial detail like gender would never have prevented Nuala from loving another. Nuala was sexual, I was irresistible. Readers, we loved each other. – Yours, etc,

Taken from The Irish Times - March 21st 2012, in response to the recent Nuala O'Faolain documentary recently airing on RTE 1. Watch it here on Real player.

This program is truly worth taking the time to look at as it gives an excellent insight not only the Life and Times of O'Faolain, but also the interesting people whom she surrounded herself with including Nell and Marian Finucane (below) who all had a part to play in the 80's TV program The Women's Program. The recent documentary was very well handled by Marian who was very close to O'Faolain. Fanicuane's expression during the program was encapsulating of her deeply inspective persona but also displaying great fondness and respect for the true character and personality which was, Nuala.
