Jabroni got a trumpet

My jabroni (bro) got a trumpet and I broke it just there. I blamed him for not buying a better one and didn't say sorry. Need to learn lessons. Still, this is my favorite trumpet playing song and video ever thanks to Deve. Louis Armstrong is a genius. His energy in this video is incredible. First heard in Vienna in the early hours of the morning after seeing 'Herkules Und Love Affair'; Wien, December 7th 2009.
Other moments from that time in Wien
It's the way you say it.

Here's to you Mary Bourke

http://www.rte.ie/news/2010/1018/robinsonm.html#audio

Listen to Mary on her trip to Gaza at the weekend with a delegation of the Elders where she talks about the terrible conditions,. Palestine photos to come soon.

Just love these photos of Mary from Life Magazine. She is the most inspiring woman ever. She was never afraid to snap for what she believed in, against the cronies and always stuck up for the minorities and forgotten groups. She was born the same year as my mother and got married the year after her. When she did marry in 1970, her parents did not attend the wedding because she was marrying a Protestant. It didn't stop her though from going far.
Ireland's Greatest is being televised at the moment on Rté 1. Mary Robinson is up there with the winning. And I really hope she does

You cannot lose if you do not play

Opening shots from the Wire episode one. The first scene stood out for me. The point of focus of these shots are just in the middle and the lights from the cop cars light up the blood from the crime scene and murder victim drama thing.

The Target [1.1]..
Man On Stoop: I’m sayin’, every Friday night in an alley behind the Cut Rate, we rollin’ bones, you know? I mean all them boys, we roll til late.
McNulty: Alley crap game, right?
Man On Stoop: Like every time, Snot, he’d fade a few shooters, play it out til the pot’s deep. Snatch and run.
McNulty: What, every time?
Man On Stoop: Couldn’t help hisself.
McNulty: Let me understand. Every Friday night, you and your boys are shootin’ craps, right? And every Friday night, your pal Snot Boogie… he’d wait til there’s cash on the ground and he’d grab it and run away? You let him do that?
Man On Stoop: We’d catch him and beat his ass but ain’t nobody ever go past that.
McNulty: I gotta ask ya: If every time Snotboogie would grab the money and run away, why'd you even let him in the game?
Man On Stoop: What?
McNulty: If Snotboogie always stole the money, why'd you let him play?
Man On Stoop: Got to. This America, man.

Have been really behind on getting through many Mini series. Often too many distractions on the net. Numerous laptop interface (disc drive)malfunctions combined with of dynamics of shared manic households,.. you cannot lose if you do not play

Jerusalem

Last night I lay a-sleeping
There came a dream so fair,
I stood in old Jerusalem
Beside the temple there.
I heard the children singing,
And ever as they sang,
Me thought the voice of angels
From heaven in answer rang.
Me thought the voice of angels
From heaven in answer rang.

Jerusalem! Jerusalem!
Lift up your gates and sing,
Hosanna in the highest!
Hosanna to your King!

And then me thought my dream was changed,
The streets no longer rang,
Hushed were the glad Hosannas
The little children sang.
The sun grew dark with mystery,
The morn was cold and chill,
As the shadow of a cross arose
Upon a lonely hill.
As the shadow of a cross arose
Upon a lonely hill.

Jerusalem! Jerusalem!
Hark! How the angels sing,
Hosanna in the highest!
Hosanna to your King!

And once again the scene was changed;
New earth there seemed to be;
I saw the Holy City
Beside the tideless sea;
The light of God was on its streets,
The gates were open wide,
And all who would might enter,
And no one was denied.
No need of moon or stars by night,
Or sun to shine by day;
It was the new Jerusalem
That would not pass away.
It was the new Jerusalem
That would not pass away.

Jerusalem! Jerusalem!
Sing for the night is o'er!
Hosanna in the highest!
Hosanna for evermore!
Hosanna in the highest!
Hosanna for evermore!

My late uncle used to sing this song as one of his personal favourits. He loved singing and sang in the local church choir. I always thought it was an immensly holy song but i guess i didn't really understand it or what Hosanna meant for that matter. In Judaism "Hoshana" (הושענא) is a Hebrew word meaning please save or save now. In Christianity, Hosanna is the cry of praise or adoration shouted in recognition of the Messiahship of Jesus on his entry into Jerusalem. Overall, "Hosanna" is a cry for salvation; while at the same time is a declaration of praise.

I remember my uncle singing this song at my sisters wedding in 1998. It was a non religious wedding (registry office at the time was quite rare) but I remember my new brother-in-law quietly walking out of the room at the time as the wedding songs were becoming all Catholic. I'm not sure exactly if this was an act of silent protest on his part or what as it was his wedding day. Maybe he just needed some air.
I think my uncle just loved belting out a good tune and the power that gave him. I am not sure if religion had anything major to do with it. My brothers and I used to get an uncontrollable laugh out of him singing all the time - even during dinner he would warble  "I am eating my peas".

Last week I was in Jerusalem for the first time. This song and memory of my uncle was going through my head for a good lot of it. If only Hosanna could save Jerusalem now..
